Porter has never taken lessons, but has studied at the School of Sight and Sound, meaning if he can see it or hear it, he can play it! Porter said, “Growing up playing in church, you had to know how to listen to the music for changes all the time, because The Spirit will change the natural flow of a song at any moment”, so Porter has always played with that type of awareness throughout his career. He was section leader through high school, even though he couldn’t read the music, he explains it as God-given talent.
